THE GRAND MAH JONGG CLUB
STANDING RULES, REGULATIONS, OPERATING POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

STANDING RULES, REGULATIONS, OPERATING POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

1. DUES: Membership dues shall be fifteen ($15.00) dollars per calendar year, and prorated as of September 1st to Five ($5.00 ) dollars.
2. NEW MEMBERSHIP / RENEWAL MEMBERSHIPS: Residents interested in membership may play two (2) times before being required to become a member of the Club. On the third visit, the resident must join the club and a current CAM activity card must be presented for membership.
3. CLUB LESSONS: Club members shall volunteer to instruct new members for club play. The Board shall determine when lessons shall be offered. After lessons, beginners may play at a designated beginners table with the dollar amount as set forth by the club. Beginners must join the regular play after a period of time not to exceed eight (8) weeks of play.
4. SIGN-IN-SHEETS: At all Mah Jongg Club activities, all members and guests are required to sign in. A CAM card shall be presented when participating in all Mah Jongg Club activities.
5. NAME TAGS: Name tags must be worn at all times during play.
6. RULES OF PLAY: All play shall be governed by the National Mah Jongg League Official Rules. Remember the cardinal rule of the National Mah Jongg League, you must pick and discard in turn.
7. SEATING: Players at each table shall roll the dice and the highest number rolled shall be EAST. At the end of the game, EAST shall leave the table, proceed to the front of the room, and wait in turn for the next available seat, including a seat at the beginner’s table is an option. The person to the right shall assume the EAST position. As a seat becomes vacant, a player waiting at the front of the room shall assume that seat.
8. PLAYERS WAITING TO BE SEATED: Players sitting out are prohibited from helping or advising another player. Exception for those at a beginner table.
9. DOLLAR LIMITATION: The dollar limitation for all players is Five ($5.00) per person. That amount should be available in only coins of nickels, dimes and quarters. If a player loses all of his/ her money (goes “pie”) he/she may continue to play for the remainder of the session. If that person wins, he/she is no longer “pie” and must pay the winner. FYI: “pie” stands for “pocketbook is empty”.
10. PLAY TIME: Beginning and ending play must be posted in the Activity Book and in the Grand Lifestyles. Current play time for Tuesday shall be from 12:00 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Wednesday from 5:45 p.m. to 9 p.m.
11. THE WEARING OF SCENTS: Members are asked to not wear any scents. This includes perfumes, cologne, shaving lotions, body lotions, hand creams, clothing penetrated by a scent, etc. Please be considerate of those with allergies.
12. CELL PHONES: Cell phones must be turned off or put on vibrate during regular club play. If you are waiting for an “important” call, place your phone on vibrate, and carry the phone on your person. Phone conversations add to the noise factor in the room and are generally disruptive. If you must take a call, please step out of the room while speaking on the phone.
13. GENERAL COURTESY TO OTHERS: We must treat all members previous, present and new with respect. No member has the right to tell another member or prospective member that he or she might not be knowledgeable or fast enough to play.
14. MEMBERS WHO ARE NEW TO THE GAME: If a perspective member has not played Mah Jongg before, or has no knowledge of the game, the prospective member is required to take lessons.
15. SOLICITING: The soliciting or selling of anything is strictly prohibited in the Mah Jongg room during regular play hours. Printed flyers from other Sun City Grand Clubs and Interest Groups may be displayed at the Mah Jongg sign in table. No flyers may be handed out to players at the club.
16. TOURNAMENTS:
a. If a member has signed up for a tournament, and for any reason cannot play, it is the responsibility of the member to contact the tournament coordinator directly.
b. Tournament Committee may impose special tournament rules of play
17. CLEAN UP: It is the responsibility of every member to help keep the Mah Jongg room clean. If a player brings in any containers, it may not be left sitting on the floor or table It must be disposed of properly when you leave the table. It is NOT the responsibility of the Board or the people who set up the room to remove used water bottles or any other debris.
18. EATING/DRINKING: Eating at the play table is strictly prohibited. If you need a beverage container, put beverage containers on the floor.
19. PUTTING SETS AWAY: When Mah Jongg play has been completed at a table, all four players must help put the game away. If all four players agree, one player may go to another table to play. Mah Jongg sets and table cloths are NOT to be left on the tables at the end of play
20. SERVICE TO THE CLUB: Every player must volunteer for at least one activity during the year. This may be accomplished by volunteering for a committee, serving as an officer, teaching, or monitoring. We must always have a monitor to sign members in at each play session. This is rules from the Activity Department and is part of the Charter Club Rules and Regulations as set forth by CAM.
21. VIOLATIONS OF THE RULES:
a. A member violates the Club Standing Rules, Regulations, Operating Policies and Procedures, and/or safety rules, the party complaining of the violation shall complete a member violations report ( CCF – 16)
b. The report shall be submitted to the club officers as soon as possible
c. After receipt of the report, the club Board shall determine if the information as provided supports that a violation occurred. If a violation occurred, the alleged violator shall receive notice, in writing, setting forth the alleged violation and the potential sanctions that may be imposed if additional violations occur. The alleged violator shall further be informed that she/he may request a hearing before the club Board.
d. Sanctions for additional violations are as follows: second violation: Suspension of club membership for a period of fourteen (14) to twenty-eight (28) day depending upon the severity of the infraction. Third violation: Termination of club membership not to exceed one (1) year.
e. If a hearing is requested by the alleged violator within fifteen (15) days of receipt of the letter as set forth in 22 ( c) herein, the hearing shall be held before the club Board. The alleged violator shall be afforded the opportunity to be heard. A written statement of the result of the hearing, the sanction (s) imposed, if any, and the appeal process shall be provided to the alleged violator and recorded in the Association records by submitting a copy to the Activities Department.
f. The alleged violator has the right to appeal the decision to the Life styles Manager within fifteen (15) days of receipt of the hearing results.
g. A record book shall be kept by the club, secretary listing the names of members, dates of suspension and /or date of termination.
